History
The great fire of 1876 destroyed Richelieu street as well as the east side of Champlain Street. Municipal authorities and merchants hired the Montreal architectural firm of RESTHER & ROY to build the Richelieu street buildings. The architects proposed row commercial buildings. Each ground floor consists of a shop with large display windows with retractable striped awnings, while residential units are found on the upper floors. The building at 182-190 Richelieu, built after 1876, houses three stores. The building’s design is in keeping with late 19th century architectural trends
