1641-1643 Saint-Denis

The series of buildings along Saint-Denis Street between Maisonneuve and Sherbrooke streets was built after the terrible fire that struck Montreal in July 1852. This type of construction is similar to single-family row houses with a stone façade. A predominantly French-speaking neighborhood, the French-Canadian bourgeoisie settled there in the late 19th century, reflecting its cultural effervescence. Today, these buildings are characterized by commercial spaces on the first floor and residential housing on the upper floors.
